VOA: Australia Joins India, US and Japan in Indian Ocean War Games
Fri November, 2020, Age: 2 years
Australia joins the U.S., Japan and India in annual Malabar naval exercises that began this past Tuesday. Australia returns to the exercises for the first time in 13 years, following Sino-Indian border clashes that spurred New Delhi to invite Canberra to take part. India has long been hesitant to extend an invitation to Australia to take part in the exercises for fear of angering Beijing, but as New Delhi’s security elite starts to appreciate the nature of China’s long-term threat to the country’s territorial integrity, it has more vigorously begun to deepen security ties with the “Quad” of democratic countries in the region.
