The Guardian: China replaces Germany as UK’s biggest import market

China has overtaken Germany to become the United Kingdom’s top import market, primarily driven by demand for face masks and personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The United Kingdom imported 16.9 billion pounds of goods in the first quarter of 2021, a 66 percent jump since 2018. Britain’s total trade with the European Union dropped by 23.1 percent in the first quarter of 2021.
