The Guardian: China owed $385bn – including ‘hidden debt’ from poorer nations, says report

165 countries are owed at least $385bn (£286bn)  by  China for ”belt and road initiative” projects, as loans are also systematically underreported to international bodies. Beijing was disproportionately lending to countries that performed poorly on conventional measures of creditworthiness but demanded far higher interest rates with shorter repayment periods.
