SCMP: U.S. efforts to rally allies against China are not useful or effective, says Beijing on eve of Alaska talks

Ahead of planned high level talks between U.S. and Chinese officials in Anchorage, Alaska (the first such talks since President Biden assumed the office), both sides have tempered expectations and admitted that compromise on key issues would be unlikely. China has also expressed some frustration with the U.S.’s purported attempts to rally Asian countries to the U.S.’s banner. Last week a virtual summit was held between high level officials of “The Quad”, an alliance comprised of the U.S., Japan, Australia and India. “The Quad” is expected to be a fixture in Biden’s efforts to assert U.S. interests in the Pacific and to check Chinese aggression.
