Senior U.S. military commander, Vice Admiral Jeffrey Trussler, deputy chief of naval operations for information warfare, said that the U.S. was closely monitoring China’s ship killing missile systems, and called China’s offensive missile development program a “destabilizing effort in the South China Sea.” He also noted, “so we watch them very closely. I hope they just keep pouring money into that type of thing – that may not be how we win the next war.” Some military analyst have inferred from that statement that the U.S. has armaments and technological equipment capable of neutralizing China’s fleet of ship-killing missiles. “What Trussler is saying is that the US has sufficient power to handle the anti-ship missile threat from China,” claimed Hong Kong-based military affairs commentator and former member of the PLA, Song Zhongping. “The US is emphasizing that threat and it will further boost its defenses against Chinese missiles.”
