Experts warned that the Philippines must be resolute in their objections to the presence of Chinese ships in Philippine’s claimed waters, or risk being seen to have abandoned their claims to those waters. The warning regards the presence of some 200 Chinese vessels that have been moored be a Philippine claimed reef since March 7th. China claims the vessels are fishing vessels while the Philippines maintain that they are a contingent of China’s People’s Armed Forces Maritime Militia (PAFMM). Philippine’s President Rodrigo Duterte’s government has lodged an official complaint regarding the matter.
