Qizhala, chairman of the Tibet autonomous region, has left Lhasa to take up a new job in Beijing, and his vacancy is expected to be filled by Lhasa Communist Party chief Yan Jinhai. Qizhala, an ethnic Tibetan from the neighboring southwestern province of Yunnan, has been head of the regional government since 2017 and is expected to take on a new role in the top legislature, the National People Congress.
