SCMP: China’s high-speed, armed reconnaissance drone completes maiden flight
Thu January, 2021, Age: 3 years
China’s new armed reconnaissance drone, the WJ-700, which was first unveiled at a Chinese airshow in 2018, completed its maiden test flight on Monday. The developer, Haiying General Aviation Equipment, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp, said that more tests would need to be conducted before the WJ-700 could be added to China’s military arsenal. The drone, which is powered by a jet engine and capable of 20 hours sustained flight, is an answer to the U.S. Avenger drone. Both drones have similar performance capabilities. The WJ-700 is relatively cheap to manufacture and could be a boon to Chinese arms exports.
