The Chinese have withdrawn, at least temporarily, ten thousand soldiers from the “Line of Actual Control (LAC)”, the disputed portion of the border it shares with India in the Himalayas. China’s Central Military Commission (CMC) is confident that the harsh Himalayan winter will forestall any potential military maneuvers. And while the CMC has indicated that it is ready to redeploy forces at a moment’s notice, the withdrawal is a positive potential indication of diminished tensions along the LAC where Chinese and Indian forces fought each other in brutal hand-to-hand combat last year.
