On August 15, China will likely end a ban on fishing in the East China Sea. This will likely result in Chinese fishing trawlers, backed by the Chinese Coast Guard and Maritime Militias, intruding into Japanese waters off the Senkaku Islands. These islands, also claimed by Beijing, are referred to as the Diaoyu by China. In response, the commander of U.S. Forces Japan said they would assist Tokyo in monitoring the incursions.
