According to four unnamed Reuters’ sources, the Trump administration has pulled back from adding Chinese tech giants Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu to a U.S. blacklist due to their supposed connection to the Chinese military. Their addition to the blacklist would have subjected them to a U.S. investment freeze and would have resulted in their removal from U.S. stock exchanges. Nevertheless, one of the Reuters sources stated that Trump administration was still considering adding up to nine other Chinese companies to the blacklist. From Reuters: “Last month, the White House added China’s top chipmaker, SMIC, and oil giant CNOOC to the blacklist. Trump also unveiled an executive order in January banning U.S. transactions with eight Chinese apps including Ant Group’s Alipay.”
