The People’s Republic of China has blocked Taiwan from attending the World Health Organization (WHO)’s World Health Assembly despite calls from the Group of Seven for the island’s inclusion. An invitation for Taiwan into the World Health Assembly requires a vote from member-states, and it is likely that China can rally enough friendly countries to block Taiwan’s entry. Although Taiwan does not have membership in the body, the WHO has cooperated with its government amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
