The Italian government has conditionally approved a deal for Vodafone to use equipment by Huawei in its 5G network. As a part of the deal, the government has the right to use its “golden power” to impose conditions or block deals with non-EU vendors. Italy has used the power three times since 2012. Other conditions on Huawei include restrictions on remote intervention to repair glitches and a stringent security threshold.
