Germany’s BDI industry association urged the EU to take a tougher stance on unfair Chinese trade practices. This despite the fact that China has emerged as Germany’s most important trade partner. BDI’s concern over Chinese trade practices comes as China concluded its annual session of the National People’s Congress in which it laid out policy goals and prerogatives as part of the country’s latest five-year plan. BDI Managing Director Joachim Lang voiced his concern that what was not stated in China’s latest five year plan was a commitment towards market openness and a free business economy. “A successful partnership will only work on the principles of reciprocity and establishing a level playing field in competition… The EU must continue on its multi-pronged path that treats China as a partner, competitor and systemic rival.
