In a statement on Friday, the Chinese government said that Taiwanese were welcome to receive China’s COVID-19 vaccines. In addition, the government called on Taiwan to ease restrictions on access to Chinese vaccines, to “allow the broad mass of Taiwan compatriots to receive the safe and highly effective mainland vaccine.” Only 3 percent of Taiwan’s population have received COVID-19 vaccines, and a spike in infections has led to the renewed implementation of public health restrictions.
