China, through its foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, issued a stern warning to the Five Eyes nations after the latter published a letter Saturday raising concerns over the mass arrest of politicians and activists in Hong Kong earlier this month. The Five Eyes nations are an intelligence collaborating network made up of the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Tellingly, New Zealand did not contribute to the letter, nor did it contribute to the Five Eyes’ 2020 rebuke of the passing of Hong Kong’s national security legislation that has been used to stifle political activities in the city.
