NYT: To Avoid an Outbreak, China Cancels Lunar New Year for Millions of Migrants

China is imposing onerous travel rules and restrictions ahead of the lunar new year on Feb. 12th to head off a surge of travel and festival congregations. Typically during the lunar new year, hundreds of millions of Chinese travel to return home and visit family. This year, the government has instituted a two week mandatory quarantine period for travelers visiting rural areas and forcing citizens to pay for their own mandatory Covid test. These rules essentially make it impossible for millions of migrant workers looking to return home for the holidays.
