NYT: Beijing takes its South China Sea strategy to the Himalayas

China completed construction of a new village high in the mountainous border region between China and Bhutan just ahead of the October 1 National Day. The coordinates of the new village are more than a mile inside what Bhutan considers its territory. The construction, documented in satellite photos, followed a playbook China has used for years in the South China Sea and along its contested border with India. It has brushed aside neighbors’ claims of sovereignty to cement its position in territorial disputes by unilaterally changing the facts on the ground.
