Nikkei: Huawei to bring in-house HarmonyOS to smartphones

Huawei announced Wednesday that it aims to switch 200 million existing handsets from Google Android to its own HarmonyOS operating system by the end of the year. Once the number one smartphone maker, U.S. sanctions due to security concerns battered its handset sales, including updates and support for Android. Huawei has been developing its own operating system since 2019.
