NewsWeek: China Says It Will Use Military Force to Take Control of Taiwan If Diplomacy Fails

As the Chinese Communist Party closed its annual National People’s Congress in Beijing, a Chinese general warned that Beijing will not rule out the use of force to take control of Taiwan if diplomatic talks do not succeed. It should come as no surprise that this announcement occurred in conjunction with the Taiwanese government vowing to provide support for pro-independence activists in Hong Kong that fall foul of the Beijing-backed local government there.
