Kyodo News: Philippines’ Duterte vows not to withdraw ships in South China Sea

In a televised address, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte vowed not to withdraw ships from disputed regions in the South China Sea and stated his willingness to cut friendly ties with China over the issue. The statement comes after 287 Chinese fishing vessels were detected near the disputed Spratly Islands, within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
