According to a new Pew Research Center survey, released Thursday, nearly nine in ten U.S. adults view China as a “competitor” or an “enemy”. It is the first survey conducted since President Biden assumed office. The survey found that 55% of Americans view China as a competitor, while 34% view the country as an enemy. A paltry 9% view China as a partner. The survey marks a stark shift in opinions from two years prior. In the latest poll, 48% of Americans believe that limiting China’s global clout should be a top foreign policy prerogative, compared to 32% in 2018. One survey respondent said, “the Chinese people as individuals are no different than other people, but their government is a totalitarian communist regime bent on conquering its neighbors and land-grabbing, as shown by their takeover of Hong Kong.”
