In a speech delivered to the Lanting Forum on U.S.- China relations, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the Biden administration to unravel the former Trump administration’s tariff campaign against China and to rebuild bilateral dialogue. “Under the current circumstances,” Wang told listeners, “the two sides may start from easier things, interact actively and build up goodwill. We hope that the U.S. side will adjust its policies as soon as possible.” In a phone call between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Biden voiced concern over unfair Chinese trade practices and the internment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang Province. Xi reportedly cautioned Biden not to meddle in Chinese internal affairs. One area where the Biden administration is reportedly considering easing Trump era Chinese sanctions is in the realm of Chinese student visas.
