Haaretz: Strategic Pact With China Gives Iran Breathing Room at a Critical Time
Mon March, 2021, Age: 2 years
Over the weekend, foreign ministers from China and Iran signed an agreement on military and economic cooperation, at an estimated value of billions of dollars. The pact gives Iran much needed maneuverability at a time when U.S. imposed sanctions have crippled the country’s economy. Negotiations leading to the agreement had been ongoing for several years. The pact evidently involves a promise by Iran to supply China with inexpensive oil for the next 25 years in return for Chinese investment and aid in massive infrastructure projects. The deal also involves military cooperation between the two powers.
