CNN: China’s top diplomat takes hardline stance in first call with new US Secretary of State

According to readouts provided by both the U.S. State Department and China’s Foreign Ministry, the first high level phone call between the countries’ top diplomats was fraught with tension and mutual recriminations. China’s top foreign policy advisor to President Xi Jinping, Yang Jiechi, accused the U.S. of plunging bilateral relations to its lowest point in decades by meddling in China’s domestic affairs and offering support to Taiwan. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, was not prepared to concede any ground averred that the U.S. would continue to highlight human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
