China imposed sanctions on 28 people Wednesday, many of them high level U.S. officials connected to the Trump administration. Included on the list were former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former National Security Advisers Robert O’Brien and John Bolton, former trade adviser Peter Navarro and former Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft. Many of the officials sanctioned by the Chinese were viewed as architects of Trump’s tough stance toward China, which culminated yesterday in the administration’s findings that China had committed genocide against the ethnic minority Uighur population in the Xinjiang region. Those sanctioned, along with their families, will be prohibited from entering China, Hong Kong or Macau and will not be permitted to conduct business with China. The sanctions were announced in a statement issued by China’s Foreign Ministry.
