Niall Ferguson, the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, writes in this column from Bloomberg that a new Cold War between the United States and China has begun. Ferguson points to his experience with Chinese foreign policy thought leaders, who agreed with that there is now a “Cold War II.” He criticizes those in favor of engagement with Beijing, saying that the CCP leadership is aware and in favor of entering an era of competition with the United States. In his words, “…today’s proponents of “rivalry-partnership” are overlooking the possibility that the Chinese aren’t interested in being frenemies. They know full well this is a Cold War, because they started it.”
