The world crossed a coronavirus vaccine milestone this week, with more than 1 billion doses having been produced. China currently leads in total production, having produced around 362 million doses. Of those, 196 million have been kept and 166 million have been exported. China’s exports have shot ahead as India (the second largest national exporter) is curbing exports, keeping doses at home to fight a second wave. In second place, the U.S. has produced 238 million doses, but has exported only a fraction of those (3 million). The U.s. has administered the most doses to date, approximately 23 percent of the global total. It is also expected to become a major exporter once domestic needs have been met.
