The Dutch parliament passed a nonbinding motion Thursday recognizing China’s treatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority in Xinjiang province as “genocide.” The Dutch parliament thus becomes the first legislature in Europe to label the treatment of Uyghur Muslims as a genocide and is joined by the U.S. and Canada who have already declared that a genocide is ongoing. This will add pressure to the E.U. which is currently trying to get a economic pact it signed with China in December over the hurdle with its member states.
