Axios: China increases spending 500 percent to influence America

The Center for Responsive Politics reported that Chinese foreign agent spending jumped from $10 million in 2016 to $64 million in the last year. Much of the spending goes to propaganda and state-run media outlets, including The Global Times, Xinhua and China Daily. The spending is registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
