Taiwan said it was “on alert” after Beijing flew a record number of planes over the air defense zone over the weekend, then 52 planes on Monday, including 34 J-16 fighter jets and a 12 H-6 bomber. Foreign minister Joseph Wu is worried about the risk of conflict and President Tsai Ing-wen said Taiwan falling to China would trigger “catastrophic” consequences for peace in Asia.
